Thrift Tips from Mommy Bloggers

I had to close out the first month of my Parents magazine challenge with an obvious choice… their posted “Top Thrift Tips from Mommy Bloggers”.  Since I just finished a year-long challenge in 2011 of buying everything I needed from a Goodwill store AND I’m a mommy blogger (Living the Goodwill Life)…I think my opinion on this warrants measure.

Amy Clark from momadvice.com mentioned Foursquare for dining out citing that she’s received a free appitizer or dessert by showing the server Foursquare’s “deal”.  I have to admit that even though I have apps on my iPhone… I don’t usually look to utilize them for a free meal when dining out, I usually keep my iPhone apps to a minimum and even stopped using FB for awhile to be in the “real world” much more  but I might check this bit of advice out in the future?!

Tsh Oxenreider from simplemom.net suggested buying second-hand because kids outgrow items or ruin them quickly.  Yes, my entire year of buying everything I needed for both a tween and toddler (not to mention myself, my partner, my sister, my mother, etc. etc. etc.) worked really well and I absolutely will always advocate buying second-hand for many reasons besides just cost.

Christine Brown from northerncheapskate.com suggested lunch dates with the significant other when the kids are in school to save on babysitting costs.  Interesting idea, but unfeasible for my current work situation… so the babysitter will keep getting her sports activities funded by our family but maybe I’ll see if that Foursquare app works to reduce our dining bill next time… then it balance out?!
